Rebuilt brick chimney stack with new lead flashing on a house in Essex

Chimney repairs in Essex

Chimneys cause more roof leaks than any other detail. We repoint, re-flaunch, renew lead flashings and rebuild stacks across Braintree, Chelmsford, Witham and Colchester — with a drone survey first so you can see exactly what you're paying to fix.

Chimney work

What we repair on a stack

Repointing

Raked out and repointed in a lime or sand-cement mix to suit the brickwork, so the joints shed water instead of soaking it up.

Flaunching

The mortar cap around the pots cracks first on most stacks. We cut it out and re-form it with a proper weathered fall.

Lead flashings

Code 4 and code 5 lead soakers, front aprons, stepped flashings and back gutters chased into the joint — not smeared in mortar.

Full rebuilds

Where frost has blown the brickwork or the stack is leaning, we take it down to a sound course and rebuild in matching brick.

Cowls and capping

Bird guards, anti-downdraught cowls and full capping on disused stacks — always with ventilation so the flue can breathe.

Removals

Redundant stacks taken down below roof level and the roof made good in matching tile or slate.

Common questions

Chimney repair FAQs

How much does chimney repointing cost in Essex?
Repointing a standard two-storey stack usually falls between £500 and £1,100 depending on size and access. We confirm the figure in writing after a survey.
Do you need scaffolding for chimney repairs?
Small jobs can sometimes be done from a tower or roof ladders. Rebuilds and full repointing normally need a scaffold, and we show that cost separately rather than burying it in the rate.
Can you find out if the chimney is causing my leak?
Yes — a 4K drone survey shows the flaunching, pointing and flashings close up without touching the roof, and you get the photos.
How long does a chimney rebuild take?
Most domestic stacks are rebuilt in two to three days once access is up, weather permitting.
